Middle School Orchestra Superior at OMEA
NEWARK, OHIO - The Mount Vernon Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Orchestras achieved high ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Large Group adjudicated event, held May 15–16 at Licking Valley High School. In addition to their evaluated stage performances, both ensembles participated in a post-concert clinic with an OMEA adjudicator.
The 8th Grade Orchestra earned the highest possible distinction, receiving straight Superior ratings. Their repertoire consisted of Symphony No. 8, mvt 3 (Stamitz/Phillips), Unyielding (Arcari), and Strings of Fire (Bernotas).
The 7th Grade Orchestra was awarded an overall Excellent rating. They performed a program featuring Concerto for Metronome (Spata), Where the River Shannon Flows (Russell/Balmages), and Sword Dance (Phillips).
Both ensembles are under the direction of Chris Japikse, assisted by Anthony Springer.
