Mount Vernon Orchestras excel at OMEA Large Group
GRANVILLE, OHIO - The Mount Vernon High School music program is celebrating a weekend of success following the OMEA State Orchestra Event. The event was held at Granville High School on February 27 and 28 and featured 26 different central Ohio orchestras. Prelude Orchestra earned an Excellent rating in Class C and Symphony Orchestra earned a rating of Superior in Class B.
The state event, sanctioned by the Ohio Music Education Association, requires ensembles to perform three prepared pieces for a panel of professional adjudicators. Following the stage performance, students are led into a separate room for the "Sight-Reading" component.
Prelude Orchestra performed Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 by J.S. Bach/Isaac, Midnight Rain by Susan H. Day, and King’s Court by Susan H. Day. Symphony Orchestra performed The Bird from String Quartet Op. 33, No. 3 by Fran Joseph Haydn/Moreno, Many Miles Away Across the Sea by Susan H. Day, and Ides of March by Sean O’Loughlin.
Both orchestras are directed by Anthony Springer, assisted by Chris Japikse.
