Musicians perform with Honor Orchestra

LEWIS CENTER, OH - Five Mount Vernon Middle School musicians performed with the OMEA East-Central Region Honors Orchestra at Olentangy Orange High School on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Chloe Durbin (violin), Audrey Cheng (cello), Lucy Maleszewski (viola), Gabby Schemrich (violin), and Alex White (cello) were nominated by their orchestra teacher, Chris Japikse, to be a part of the ensemble.

The 75 member honors orchestra was comprised of middle school students from 21 different central Ohio counties. Vince Huzika conducted the orchestra. Huzika was recently selected as OMEA's Outstanding Young Music Educator and teaches in Upper Arlington. The orchestra performed Dance Scenario by Del Borgo, The Jolly Roger by Donahoe, Appalachian Sunrise by Gazda, and Sharks of Seville by Baker Monday.
